Chivas Reviews
This is a review for the Chivas 12 year Regal, 18 year Regal and 21 year Royal Salute versions of Chivas. I am a big drinker of Chivas mainly do to my father. Since i can remember, he has always been drinking the 12 year and in recent years the 18 year. He had the 21 year this past year for Christmas as a present from my brother in law and myself. I have tried all of them solo and with a filler. In this review I''ll talk about all three and how they compare to each other.
Chivas Regal 12 year
~ $25 - $40 for 750ml
~ $50 - $60 for 1.5L
This is the Chivas that I have drank the most, mainly due to price. The Chivas 12 year is one of the smoothest Scotch whiskey / Scotch I have had at 12 years of age. I rarely drink it straight though due to the bite at the end. I usually mix it 2 parts Chivas 1 part filler (water, tonic, setzer water, whatever floats your boat). It''s a great drink to have with a smoke, but I wouldn''t recommend it with a mild or mild-medium cigar as it might over power it. When I drink Chivas 12 year it''s because I''m not going to drink one, I''m going to have a few. Usually it''s because I''m having a cigar or I''m playing Cuban dominoes (NOT double six).
Chivas Regal 18 year
~ $50 - $60 for 750ml
~ $110 - $140 for 1.5L
The Chivas 18 year is what I consider more of a celebration / special occasion like a birthday, gradutation or goal setting event. Chivas 18 year is a good distance away from the Chivas 12 year regarding quality. I can drink this easily on the rocks without making a face but if you need to mix it won''t hinder it much. This one is easier to smoke with a mild-medium smoke since it is so much smoother than the Chivas 12 year and leaves a great after taste that will complement any cigar. This is probably the best deal out of the three (maybe even all four) of them.
Chivas Royal Salute 21 year
~ $130 - $180 for 750ml
I have only had the Chivas 21 year a few times, but it did make enough of an impression for me to remember. It strikes similar to the Chivas 18 year due to how smooth it is and not needing to mix it with anything. I would said it is slightly smoother, but it wasn''t anywhere near as big a jump as the Chivas 18 year compared to the Chivas 12 year. After drinking a couple, you start to notice how smooth it gets with each sip. And not because you''re getting buzzed or more accurately higher dopamine levels in the brain either. Probably falls in the same
category for smoking with mild-medium and up. This is better than the Chivas 18 year, but compared to price the Chivas 18 year is still a better deal in my eyes.
Hopefully some time this year I can do a rating on the Chivas Regal 25 year if I can get a hold of one without the $300 price sticker, ouch.
